Belmont, CA –– May 10, 2016 SITRI, the innovation center for accelerating the development and commercialization of “More than Moore” (MtM) solutions to power the Internet of Things (IoT), today hosted the honorable Gao Yun, Mayor of Jiading, and his official delegation to the SITRI Silicon Valley office, in Belmont California. The purpose of the visit was to meet with the local SITRI leadership and to observe the Startup Demo and Pitch Day Event, hosted by SITRI.

SITRI Innovations is the Silicon Valley office of SITRI, and plays an important role in connecting SITRI to the high tech community of Silicon Valley, attracting and hiring highly skilled local talent, and forging partnerships and collaboration across the technology industry. It is also SITRI’s window into the dynamic startup and incubation community in Silicon Valley, and a vehicle for SITRI to engage directly with promising new startups.

The 2016 SITRI Innovations Demo and Pitch Day Event was organized in conjunction with many of the well known incubators in the Bay Area, including Innospring, Techcode, and Lab360 – all with direct ties back to China, as well as SummitView Capital, Band of Angels, and other Bay Area investment hosues. The event brought together 30 early stage startups to demonstrate their product ideas and pitch to potential investors for support to get their ideas to market. Over 250 people registered to attend this highly anticipated event. “The Bay Area is a rich and energetic environment for new startups in the IoT and Wearable space,” said Peter Himes, General Manager of SITRI Innovations. “With the ecosystem of incubators, investors, and international exposure that startups can get here, we attract the industry’s most creative and bright minds to realize the future and promise of IoT and Wearable Technologies.”

“The China connections to Silicon Valley have always been strong, and we are seeing active investment interest in this area grow,” adds Joseph Wei, Managing Director of the Lab360 Hardware Incubator and IEEE Santa Clara Valley chair. “IoT and Wearable Devices have accelerated this interest, and we are excited to be able to work with SITRI in nurturing these cross-Pacific relationships.”

SITRI regularly holds IoT events through its Silicon Valley IoT and Wearable Devices MeetUp group, as well as coordinated events like this. “The goal of events like this is to increase awareness of SITRI’s model, as well as to give these new startups more opportunities to attract investors,” Himes adds. “With SITRI’s unique model of early stage technology incubation coupled with IoT systems integration, we address today’s opportunities and tomorrow’s technology needs.”
